Just looks like a load of forced multiculturalism. I agree with Mark. This film is wonderful. It doesn't put a foot wrong.

Ladies and Gentlemen. Race as complex as it can get. This expensively made film is too long, boring, bloated, self-conscious, unfunny and indulgent. And I am sorry to say I found it quite unrecognisable as a production based on a novel by Charles Dickens.
The book was written in 1849 and yet key characters are played by the following actors:
Fisayo Akinade - Nikki Amuka-Bird - Tuwaine Barrett - Faisal Dacosta - Ranveer Jaiswal - Divian Ladwa - Phaldut Sharma - Peter Singh - Jairaj Varsani - Benedict Wong - Neilesh Ambu - Antoniya Gerimpapazi - Arun Kapur - Lamissah La-Shontae - Kwok Ng and of course, Dev Patel as David Copperfield.
The casting doesn't seem very faithful to the book. In fact, it seems to be an exercise in heavy-handed, woke point scoring. Can an Asian actor play David Copperfield? Only if you accept that Benny Hill can play a Chinese man. And we all know that Benny Hill will never be seen, mentioned or heard of ever again. Why? Because what he did is now deemed TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
I smell double standards!
White man plays black or Asian character = Unacceptable!
Black or Asian man plays white character = Great.
Can no one else see the comparison?
Like I say the film is not that great, but what jars most of all is the false, unrealistic, frankly laughable, placing of actors who in no way resemble the characters they are there to portray.
Progress or a return to the 70s with the roles reversed? You decide. br> Oh, nearly forgot: The character Mr Micawber is described as "a stoutish, middle-aged person. Here he is portrayed by the tall and wiry Peter Capalbi. Need I say more.

Who was David Copperfield. Charles Dickens is my all-time favorite author. Question is, do I have the patience to re-read this before I see the movie. Most of his books are 500+ pages long ! Cant wait to see this. Looks glorious. 🙂. Outstanding story 🤔🤔🤔🤔. Another historical film that resents the time period its set in. If you wanna do colour blind casting then thats fine. But dont ever tell me its used to represent the diversity of Victorian London when its clearly used to represent the modern cinema goer. What I truly resent about ‘colour blind casting is that soon, if a film about historical Britain doesnt have multi racial casting then thatll soon be seen as either out of touch or even offensive, i assure you that that future isnt as unlikely as you might think.

Just out of curiosity who is going to a theater? I normally wait for Netflix or Hulu, Prime. Definitely should have made a deal with streaming. Looking forward to this after the disappointment of Avenue 5s first episode…. I love dev patels acting in most things. Hahaha I was like since when is David copperfield indian (the magician)lol. Sorry he wasnt indian. I think Dev Patel could play any role he was asked to play. He'd be remembered even if he played a character with no lines at all. His facial expressions and body movements could carry him. He's so versatile and having those opportunities and seizing them is something I really admire in an actor/actress.

The only thing that I could see was Aneurin in that perfect red suit ❤. Sooo. not magic. True story, I asked my wife to get me David Copperfield from the library and she came back saying they didnt have it and thought I might like Paul Daniels: My Magic Life instead. I liked it. not a lot. Not Funny at all. Where is peter. Definitely watching this. Am reading this book!📚.

Saw this on Friday. Absolutely fantastic film

I didn't realize how Brown England was back then.

I just had the misfortune of sitting through this bowel movement and out of interest I thought I'd check Kermode's review guessing he would have loved it. and what a surprise. Firstly I found the casting unbelievably distracting, why bother setting the film in Victorian era at all? The movie had no narrative thrust, it lamely meandered around various unfunny characters with no excitement to be had, the stuff with Heap should have provided some drama but barely featured. Some performances were good; Laurie the best, Patel was decent, Wishaw interesting too while others (I'm looking in your direction Paul Whitehouse) appeared utterly bemused. As for the production, it looked like they shot over the course of a bank holiday for 800 quid, CGI St Paul's constantly looming in the background looked awful. The cinema audience had a few initial titters but these died off as the 'comedy' dragged on. Don't be taken in by Kermode, there's not a cat in hells chance he or any sentient creature would watch this drivel twice - the man gives positives reviews when he likes a film's politics - it's that simple.

There seems to be something a little off about this. but I cant put my finger on it🤦🏼‍♂️.
